Elvis Presley’s 89-Track Sunset Boulevard Box Set Features 1970s L.A. Rarities

The Elvis Presley box set titled Sunset Boulevard will be released on August 1, featuring 89 tracks from his Los Angeles recording sessions and rehearsals between 1970 and 1975, with more than half previously unreleased in the U.S. The collection, available as a five-CD set and digitally, includes alternate takes of classics such as "Burning Love," "Separate Ways," and "T-R-O-U-B-L-E," with "Burning Love (Take 2)" released as an advance track. Grammy-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang created new mixes for the first two discs by stripping overdubs, offering a fresh sonic perspective on these recordings, and these discs will also be available separately as a two-CD and two-LP vinyl set. The remaining discs contain rehearsal recordings from Presley’s Las Vegas residencies in 1970 and 1974, including songs never recorded in the studio like "Twelfth of Never" and "Softly as I Leave You." The box set is packaged with rare archival photos, liner notes by historian Colin Escott, and an introduction by Presley’s friend Jerry Schilling, who accompanied him during significant moments such as his meeting with President Nixon. Additionally, a Sunset Boulevard listening party will be held in Memphis during Elvis Week 2025 to celebrate the release.
