Flyers Announce Svejkovsky, Varady as Assistant Coaches
The Philadelphia Flyers have hired Jaroslav Svejkovsky and Jay Varady as assistant coaches for the 2025-26 season, reuniting both with new head coach Rick Tocchet from previous collaborations. Svejkovsky joins after serving as an assistant coach with Tocchet on the Vancouver Canucks last season, overseeing a 15th-ranked power play, and brings experience from NHL and junior levels. Varady arrives from the Detroit Red Wings, where he spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach, and has also coached with Tocchet in Arizona as well as in junior leagues and the AHL. Tocchet highlighted the importance of diverse coaching styles and perspectives, noting both hires bring unique strengths. The Flyers are focusing on improving special teams, particularly their struggling power play. Additional hires are expected as Tocchet completes his coaching staff.
