Crown Estate Plans £400 Million Investment in UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain
King Charles III's Crown Estate has announced a commitment to invest up to £400 million ($543 million) in the UK's offshore wind sector to address limited supply chain capacity that hinders the deployment of renewable energy projects. The funding will be allocated through two programs: a £350 million Supply Chain Investment Programme aimed at constructing new ports, manufacturing, and supply chain infrastructure, and a £50 million Supply Chain Accelerator that supports early-stage project development, currently offering up to £15 million in its second funding round. These investments align with the UK's goal to largely decarbonize its electricity grid by 2030 and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, while fostering local economic growth and strengthening energy security. The Crown Estate will coordinate with private and public sector organizations, including Great British Energy and the National Wealth Fund, to maximize the impact of these investments. Additionally, the Crown Estate recently approved capacity expansions at seven existing offshore wind farms, further signaling its strategic role in the nation's clean energy transition. This initiative reflects the Crown Estate's use of new investment powers under the Crown Estate Act 2025 to accelerate offshore wind deployment across the UK.
