Bagpuss Iconic Children’s Character Expected Return in 2027 Film
The beloved British children's TV character Bagpuss, a saggy pink-and-white cloth cat, is set to return in a new live-action and animated film scheduled for release in 2027. Originally created by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate and first aired in 1974, Bagpuss was voted the nation's favorite children's show in 1999 and remains a cultural icon. The film will serve as a sequel, reawakening Bagpuss and his friends to find themselves in modern-day Britain, continuing their mission of mending lost and broken items. Produced by Birmingham-based Threewise Entertainment with the blessing of the original creators' estates, the movie promises to stay true to the spirit of the classic series through heartfelt storytelling, comedy, and music. Emily Firmin, who played the young girl in the original series and is Peter Firmin's daughter, expressed her excitement about introducing Bagpuss to a new generation. The production has received investment from Creative UK and aims to delight both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
