Clovis Father Held Without Bond in Baby’s Death

Jared White, a 35-year-old father from Clovis, New Mexico, has been charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in death and child abandonment or abuse after the death of his five-month-old baby. Emergency responders attempted CPR for nearly 40 minutes before transporting the infant to the hospital, where the child was pronounced dead. White initially claimed the baby was found unresponsive in a tipped-over bouncer, but a friend later told police she witnessed White strangling the infant, admitting she first lied out of fear. Investigators found deplorable living conditions, including a dirty mattress, a baby bottle with a cockroach, rotten food, and dog feces. A second child in the home was taken into protective custody. White is being held without bond as the investigation continues, and authorities are seeking further information from the public.
