Arrests Made in Bellevue Shooting That Killed Teen

On Oct. 18 at Bellevue’s Forest Park Apartments, 17-year-old Ja’Quan Nolan was fatally shot in the back of the head; police say his 19-year-old cousin, Marquez Reed, fired into an apartment. Metro Nashville Police have issued an arrest warrant charging Reed with criminal homicide, felony reckless endangerment and use of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony; he is currently jailed in Rutherford County on unrelated auto-burglary charges and will be booked in Nashville later. Court records show Reed had prior arrests in 2024 and pleaded guilty to an auto-theft charge. Two others — 21-year-old Malichi Cummins and a 16-year-old — are charged with attempted murder and felony reckless endangerment; investigators say video and witness accounts identify Reed as the shooter and show Cummins taking a gun from Nolan as the three fled. Cummins was arrested Oct. 24 in Rutherford County and the juvenile was arrested in Montgomery County and booked into juvenile detention; police say the shooting followed an argument between Nolan and a man on an apartment balcony, and an adult in the targeted apartment was grazed by a bullet, treated and released while a woman and four small children were also inside.
