British Tourist Missing in Rio de Janeiro Leaves Passport, Belongings at Airbnb

Denis Kopanev, a 33-year-old British-Russian financial analyst, has mysteriously disappeared from his Airbnb in the Gávea neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was last seen on June 9 leaving the property, captured on CCTV wearing a beige jacket and trousers, a dark baseball cap, and a white shirt, but never checked out, leaving behind his passport and belongings. Kopanev was supposed to travel to São Paulo the next day to meet an American friend, and they planned to visit Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago off Brazil's northeastern coast. His phone's last known location was near Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, close to his accommodation, but has not updated since. Friends and family, including his best friend Benone Moura, describe his disappearance as out of character, noting Kopanev often visited Brazil and always kept in touch when traveling. The disappearance was reported to local police and the British Embassy, and the case is under investigation by the Rio de Janeiro Whereabouts Discovery Unit (DDPA).
