Over 100 Survivors Enter Harrods Mohamed Al Fayed Abuse Compensation Scheme
More than 100 survivors of alleged sexual abuse by former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed have entered the company's compensation scheme, which opened in March 2025 and will remain open until March 2026. The scheme, developed with MPL Legal and funded by Harrods, offers a sliding scale of damages with payments up to £385,000 plus treatment costs, including general damages, work impact payments, aggravated damages, and compensation for intrusive medical examinations. Eligibility has been expanded to include employees of Fayed’s private airline, Fayair (Jersey) Co Ltd, for abuse claims before May 2010. Harrods emphasizes that survivors are not required to undergo medical assessments, as claims can be processed through medical or non-medical pathways based on documentary evidence. The store continues to engage with survivors directly and through legal representatives, providing individual and in-person or video apologies. Harrods has also filed legal action to replace the executors of Al Fayed’s estate to ensure responsible administration and protect assets for claimants, following the airing of a 2024 BBC documentary that brought the allegations to light.
