Despite feeling 'played,' Rodriguez expressed his affection for Vergara and his willingness to help, noting how their real-life interactions echoed their characters' dynamic on the show. He also recounted how Vergara would sometimes improvise on set and rely on him to remind her of her lines. Rodriguez praised co-star Ed O’Neill for mentoring him early in the series.
