Multiple Federal Sentences in Large-Scale Fentanyl Trafficking Operations Across US States
Several major drug trafficking figures involved in the distribution of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other narcotics have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms across the United States amid ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis. In Oregon, Efrain Roberto Diaz-Rangel was sentenced to over seven years for distributing counterfeit Oxycodone pills containing lethal fentanyl, highlighting the deadly potency of the synthetic opioid. Similarly, Martin Manzo Negrete received 15 years for leading a methamphetamine trafficking ring in Lane County, Oregon, with seizures including 384 pounds of methamphetamine and firearms. In West Virginia, eight individuals linked to a large trafficking network distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine were sentenced, with penalties ranging from 9 to 300 months in prison. Massachusetts saw significant convictions as well: Emilio Garcia was sentenced to 18 years for leading a North Shore drug operation responsible for millions of doses of fentanyl-laced pills, and Jonathan Melendez Decatro received 10 years for heading a fentanyl distribution network sourcing drugs from Latin America. These cases underscore multi-agency collaboration involving federal, state, and local law enforcement to address the rise in trafficking and overdoses related to potent synthetic opioids and other controlled substances.
