Elderly Man Carjacked, Suspect Arrested in Rhode Island

A 77-year-old man, Mike Doyle, was violently assaulted and carjacked in his driveway in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Friday afternoon while recovering from knee surgery. The suspect, 46-year-old David Agneta, who is homeless and previously lived in Gloucester, demanded Doyle's keys, shoved him to the ground, and drove away in the stolen vehicle. Doyle sustained bruises but did not require hospitalization. Police identified Agneta using surveillance footage and the victim's description, and he was arrested by Rhode Island State Police in Exeter about eight hours later on a charge of possessing a stolen vehicle. Agneta is set to be arraigned in Rhode Island before being extradited to Massachusetts to face charges of carjacking and assault and battery on an elderly person. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
