Gunman Fires at Police Vehicles, Jersey City Officers Return Fire
On Friday afternoon in Jersey City, an armed gunman opened fire on two marked police vehicles traveling southbound on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue. Although the vehicles were struck and four officers were inside, none of the officers or nearby civilians were injured. A police sergeant exited one of the vehicles and returned fire, resulting in the gunman being shot and hospitalized in unknown condition. The incident was described by officials as an unprovoked and random attack, with no ongoing police engagement preceding the shooting. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation and is urging the public to come forward with any information. Authorities also noted that the officers were hospitalized for precautionary trauma evaluation but sustained no physical gunshot wounds.
