Tesco Plans First Isle of Skye Store in Portree

Tesco is planning to open its first store on the Isle of Skye, with a proposed 32,000 sq ft supermarket and petrol station in Portree on Drovers Way, marking a significant multi-million-pound investment expected to create local jobs. The development, supported by local MSP Kate Forbes, will be next to a planned new link road and housing development, with community consultation events scheduled before a full planning application is submitted later in 2025. Tesco currently serves the Isle of Skye through online delivery, and this new store aims to enhance local shopping choice and accessibility. In addition to the Skye project, Tesco is refurbishing a store in Trowbridge, converting a Budgens site into a Tesco Express, with temporary Post Office closure during the upgrade. Tesco is also expanding in Belfast by converting the long-standing SS Moore sports shop into a Tesco Express, adding to their existing city center locations, and has received planning permission for its first Tesco store in west Tyrone, Strabane. These developments reflect Tesco's ongoing commitment to expanding its retail presence across the UK and Ireland.
