Court Removes Marvel from $400M Baldoni-Lively Lawsuit

Marvel Entertainment has been officially removed from the ongoing legal dispute between actors Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The case involved Baldoni's request for internal Marvel communications about the character Nicepool from the film Deadpool & Wolverine, created by Lively's husband Ryan Reynolds, which Baldoni claimed was used to harass and ridicule him. On June 9, U.S. District Court Judge Lewis J. Liman granted Marvel's motion to quash the subpoena and protect its confidential documents, ruling that the information requested was no longer relevant after the dismissal of Baldoni's $400 million countersuit against Lively and others. Marvel had initially sought removal from the lawsuit in April, citing concerns over confidential information. Although Baldoni’s countersuit was dismissed, the judge allowed him the option to amend and refile certain claims by June 23. This decision marks a significant development in the high-profile legal battle involving prominent Hollywood figures and Marvel’s role in it.
