Anthem, OhioHealth Reach Multi-Year Agreement Ensuring Coverage for Thousands in Ohio
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio and OhioHealth have reached a new multi-year agreement that ensures uninterrupted access for Anthem members to OhioHealth hospitals, facilities, and physician practices across all health plans, including employer-sponsored, individual, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid. Both parties emphasized their commitment to providing high-quality care without interruption or uncertainty, with a focus on advancing value-based care that aligns payment with quality rather than quantity. Carrie Harris-Muller, OhioHealth's senior vice president and chief population health officer, highlighted the priority of improving the health of those they serve, while Jane Peterson, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio, underscored the goal of better health outcomes, comprehensive support, and ultimately lower costs for individuals and families. The previous contract had been extended until August 15 to avoid any gaps in coverage while the new deal was finalized. Anthem members with questions are advised to contact Member Services using the number on their ID cards. This agreement follows similar negotiations Anthem had with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, which resulted in a last-minute deal for most plans but left Anthem Medicare Advantage out of network there.
