Douglass, U.S. Stars Shine at World Championships
At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, American swimmer Kate Douglass won gold in the women's 200-meter breaststroke, setting new American and Championship records with a time of 2:18.50—the second-fastest ever in the event—while world record holder Evgeniia Chikunova of Russia took silver. Douglass's performance makes her one of the few to break 2:19 in the event, following her Olympic gold. Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands won gold in the women's 100-meter freestyle, while American Torri Huske claimed bronze. Elsewhere, at the USA Track & Field Championships, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the women's 100-meter final with a world-leading 10.65 seconds, and Kenny Bednarek won the men's 100-meter final with a personal best of 9.79 seconds. Both track athletes are now seen as strong contenders for future international events.
