Egypt Postpones Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Amid Israel-Iran Tensions
Egypt has postponed the grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), originally scheduled for July 3, 2025, to the fourth quarter of the year due to escalating regional tensions stemming from the Israel-Iran military confrontation. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities emphasized that the decision reflects Egypt’s national responsibility to ensure the event occurs in a stable and suitable atmosphere that honors the country's cultural legacy and attracts broad international participation. The museum, located near the Giza Pyramids and set to be the world’s largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization, houses tens of thousands of artifacts including King Tutankhamun’s treasures. Despite the delay, the GEM remains partially open for visitors, continuing its trial operations until the official inauguration. Egyptian officials indicated that the new opening date will be announced once regional developments allow for proper global momentum. The postponement highlights concerns about regional stability but also underscores Egypt’s commitment to presenting an exceptional global event befitting its cultural heritage.
