New Mom Killed in Indiana Deer Crash

Cheyenne Nicole Sears, 25, of Spencer, Indiana, was killed Oct. 25 in a crash on State Road 67 near Paragon five days after giving birth to twins. Authorities say a northbound Pontiac struck a deer, which was flung into southbound traffic and crashed through the windshield of the Chevy Blazer Sears was riding in, killing her; occupants of the Pontiac were not injured. The 55-year-old Blazer driver was airlifted to a hospital and a juvenile rear-seat passenger was also hospitalized. Sears worked in health services at The Springs/Trilogy Health Services and was remembered by coworkers for her care and leadership. Friends, coworkers and community members launched an online fundraiser that has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support her family, and local officials said the unpredictable crash has deeply affected the community.
