Two Women Killed in Separate Northeast Kingdom, Maine Crashes

Two fatal vehicle crashes were reported recently in New England involving a bicyclist and a car. In South Ryegate, Vermont, Kathryn Mabey, 64, died after her electric bicycle was struck by a truck as she attempted to cross lanes into a parking lot; the driver was uninjured, and neither impairment nor speed were factors according to police, with the investigation ongoing. Separately, in Berwick, Maine, 37-year-old Jessica Peloquin from Dover, New Hampshire, died when her vehicle veered off Route 236 and struck a utility pole; speed was considered a contributing factor, and the investigation remains open. Authorities from both incidents have requested witnesses to come forward to assist with their ongoing investigations. Emergency responders were prompt in both cases, but sadly, neither victim survived. These incidents highlight continuing safety concerns on regional roads involving motor vehicles and bicycles.
