Meta AI Boosts Daily Users to 3.4 Billion, Increases Facebook Instagram Engagement
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg attributed the increase in user engagement across Meta's apps in Q2 2025 to advancements in AI-powered recommendation systems, which have improved content relevance and quality. Despite widespread user complaints about the rise of low-quality AI-generated content, or "AI slop," Meta reported a 5% increase in time spent on Facebook and a 6% increase on Instagram, driven by these AI enhancements. The company saw over 3.4 billion daily users across its family of apps, a 6% year-over-year growth, contributing to total app revenue of $47.1 billion, up 22% year-over-year. Video consumption rose 20% year-over-year, aided by AI-driven ranking optimizations and efforts to promote original content on Instagram. Additionally, Meta's Threads platform, a competitor to X, benefited from the integration of large language models, further boosting user engagement. Zuckerberg also highlighted Meta's work on AI glasses as a future cognitive advantage, reflecting the company's broader AI ambitions, including early signs of superintelligence development with a human-centered approach.
