Razorpay Curlec Enables UPI Payments for Indian Travelers in Malaysia
Razorpay, through its Malaysian subsidiary Curlec, has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to enable Indian travelers to make UPI payments directly in Malaysia, allowing instant and secure transactions without the need for international cards or currency exchange. This initiative, announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, facilitates Malaysian merchants in accepting payments in Indian rupees with settlements in Malaysian ringgit, streamlining cross-border payments and reducing foreign exchange costs. In 2024, over one million Indian tourists spent more than Rs 110 billion in Malaysia, highlighting the growing demand for efficient digital payment solutions. UPI, India's flagship real-time payment system, processed nearly 20 billion transactions in September 2025 alone, underscoring its widespread adoption and reliability. This cross-border integration aims to boost business opportunities for Malaysian merchants while offering convenience to Indian travelers, aligning with broader Southeast Asian efforts to enhance regional payment connectivity. Leaders from Razorpay and NIPL emphasized that this development marks a major milestone in expanding India's fintech innovation globally, creating a seamless and borderless payment experience.
