San Jose Police Investigate Two Early-Morning Hit-and-Run Crashes Leaving Pedestrian Critical

Early Friday morning in San Jose, a fatal hit-and-run collision occurred near West Virginia Street and Almaden Avenue, involving a blue Nissan Sentra that struck two pedestrians, including a 72-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair and his companion. The male victim was critically injured and later died at the hospital, marking the 11th traffic-related fatality in San Jose this year. The female companion sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver fled the scene but was later arrested at his home and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Authorities also investigated a separate hit-and-run crash on southbound Highway 85 near Blossom Hill Road, which involved two vehicles and left occupants injured but expected to recover.
