Trump Links Thailand, Cambodia Trade Deals to Ceasefire Amid Border Conflict

Speaking with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, Trump emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and peace, comparing the situation to the India-Pakistan conflict that was successfully resolved through diplomacy. The conflict, centered around disputed border areas including the Prasat Preah Vihear temple, has resulted in over 30 deaths and tens of thousands displaced. Despite Cambodia's acceptance of a Malaysia-backed ceasefire proposal, Thailand prefers bilateral talks, complicating resolution efforts. Trump has threatened reciprocal tariffs on imports from both countries effective August 1 if peace is not achieved. His diplomatic approach uses the incentive of trade deals to encourage a ceasefire and renewed discussions toward peace and stability in the region.
