Artemis Gold Opens Blackwater Mine in British Columbia
Artemis Gold officially opened its Blackwater Mine in British Columbia, marking the region's newest gold and silver mining operation. The mine, located southwest of Prince George on the territories of the Lhoosk’uz Dené and Ulkatcho First Nations, was celebrated for its collaboration with Indigenous communities and its economic impact, including the creation of hundreds of jobs and significant provincial revenue over its lifetime. Premier David Eby highlighted the mine as part of British Columbia's role as an economic engine for Canada and emphasized responsible development and environmental stewardship. The mine achieved commercial production after 22 months of construction and three months of commissioning and is forecasted to produce 190,000 to 230,000 ounces of gold in 2025. Artemis Gold currently employs around 400 workers at Blackwater, with plans for phase two expansion expected to increase employment and production. The project includes agreements sharing mineral tax revenue with Indigenous nations, reflecting ongoing engagement and partnership throughout the mine's development.
